Bad Vibrations get serious with Sewercide Dave

Sewercide Dave caught up with this teen sensation right before they left for a bunch of Canadian dates....

D - The band has released a cd, have a new record coming out, an upcoming eastern canadian tour starting on May 5th and i'm sure some other things that haven't come to light yet. For a fairly new project it doesn't seem like you guys are wasting any time. Do you feel like as a band with other musical commitments that Bad Vibes is taking a front seat to other projects right now?

B - I feel we're doin ok productivity wise, but to tell you the truth i wish we could do more. We have so many songs right now on the back burner, we're trying to catch up to ourselves. I'm sure this will start happening now that Evan's four track is working again and the cat is dead.

I guess Bad Vibes have taken the front seat for me because of how natural it is make this kind of music with these good people. Rock riffs come easy to us and are rewarding to play live and that is why I like playing in this band. As far as the others, there may be other reasons involved, but i am quite sure we could all agree that we like making noise and drinking together.

D - Halifax seems to be experiencing a great and thriving time in music right now. Having played quite a bit over the years, how do you feel about the current state of the local music community?

B - Halifax is a weird little city, that likes to mix things up. That is why shows can be quite diverse but still feel comfortable and make sense. The scenes don't seem quite as segregated and specific as scenes in bigger cities, at least this is what I've observed through touring with DD and The Hold in the past. I don't know if Halifax is better than ever before, there has been many exciting eras, i do think it is as confusing as it ever was, in a good way.

D - With so many sub-genres branching off from punk music, where do you feel a group like Bad Vibrations fits into that?

B - I don't have a clue where we fit really. I think we're aggressive and slightly evil but sweet sometimes. Is this punk? Who knows, maybe it's motorcycle rock or bum core. I think someone who has Black Flag, Joy Division and The Byrds in the same record collection might get us.

D - What can people expect from the band's upcoming record?

B - I feel our new record is a rawer and heavier affair, there is more intensity in the key of E and death polka beats going on. We like it (boo boos and all).

D - One of the songs you do called "Pick It Up" was recorded before with Evan's project Secret Colors and Husband & Knife's song "Career Suicide" was rerecorded by Dog Day while KC was playing drums for the group. Is there a particular reason that you've done this other than the idea of having a different take on the same songs?

B - Nope, I'd say it is having a different take on the song, that is it. By the way Evan kidnapped a wizard yesterday and gave it a DNA shower.

D - Anything you care to add about the group before we cap things off?

B - Thanks, hope we meet again. . .
